I'm guessing you've heard of My Space and Facebook? And maybe even LinkedIn? They are 3 of the premier social networking applications on the Web. And millions of people are using them to connect, which is great.

But the fact that their reach is so broad can be somewhat intimidating to the small business owner who is just dipping his or her toe into the water of business networking over the Internet. And the learning curve can be steep, as well.

So, I thought I'd offer an alternative to visitors of my site who would like to build their own small business profiles on the Web. Voila...
My SmallBiz Space was born!

At My SmallBiz Space, you can post a profile of your small or home business, along with your photograph or business logo. Plus, you'll be able to add to your profile whenever you want to, so as your business grows and develops, we'll be able to experience your success right along with you.

It will be fun to see how many small business ideas there are, how they each compare to one another, and how we all grow over time!

Wondering What to Put in Your Profile?

Not sure where to start? Well, each of you probably bring something a bit different to the table, but here are some ideas of things you might want to include in your small business profiles:

• Your name – This community is not just about your business; it's also about you and making connections with other business owners, so tell us who you are, OK?

• Your business type – Is it a consulting business? Or maybe internet marketing? Do you sell a service or a product of some kind? Or it is something else altogether?

• Your niche – Who is your target market? Golfers? Other small business owners? Labrador retriever "parents"? New moms? Women in business? Every business has a target market... tell us what yours is.

• A summary of your business as it stands today – Here's the meat of your profile. Tell us when you got started, and where you are as far as business development? Just starting out? Or have you been around for years? Or somewhere in between? How are you doing? What's happening in your business right now?

• Your goals for posting this small business profile – Tell us what you hope to get out of My SmallBiz Space... just looking to publicize your business a bit? Or do you want to make contact with other small business owners, and if so, for what purpose? If you're looking for joint ventures, tell us what kind you're interested in.

• How to contact you, if needed – PLEASE... don't post your email address here, or scammers will harvest it and email you till the cows come home! A better choice is to put a URL for your Contact page on your website. If you MUST use an email address, then put it in this format: yourname AT youremail DOT com. Don't use the real @ sign or a real dot in the domain name for your email address.

• The URL for your website – You can also put the URL to your small business website, if you have one. Please note: My SmallBiz Space is not a venue for posting affiliate links or any other kind of pure advertising link. It is simply a place where you and your small business can see and be seen. So please don't abuse the opportunity, OK?
